GLOBAL VISUAL CODE

Volume II.
Chinese Civilization

GLOBAL VISUAL CODE continues its research with Volume II — Chinese Civilization.

We have gathered 25 visual codes that make China recognizable in a split second.

These are not tourist souvenirs, nor Orientalist clichés.

They are architectural forms, ornamental patterns, materials, flashes of color, and engineering solutions that have shaped the country's visual language for millennia — and continue to shape it today.

Each code is a fragment of the civilization's visual DNA.

Together, they form the Civilization Design Board — a museum-grade artifact that captures identity in the present and opens a path toward its transformation in the future.

Welcome to the second volume of the project.

One civilization.
Twenty-five codes.
An infinite future.

The Civilization Today

The civilization's visual genome in the present tense.

Not a collection of objects, but a unified system of cultural codes — architecture, ornament, material, color, engineering.

25 elements that make a civilization recognizable without words.

CODE TRANSFORMATION

Reinterpreting Heritage

This is where the designer's work begins.

Historical and cultural elements are not copied.

They are analyzed, stripped of literal meaning, and transformed into a new visual language.

Heritage → Form Analysis → Abstraction → New Design Code.

Three examples of transformation drawn from China — not a uniform render, but three distinct real-world settings where the code lives today.
01. Pagoda
A form that rose into the light
02. Dragon & Cloud Motif
A pattern that walked the runway
03. Dougong
A joinery without a single nail, become an interior

Civilization Beyond Time

The future is not forecast.

It is designed.

Two hundred years from now, a civilization may evolve along different paths.

The same three codes — Pagoda, Dragon & Cloud Motif, Dougong — imagined two hundred years from now.
01. Pagoda · 2226
A tier that became a port
02. Dragon & Cloud Motif · 2226
A dragon returned to the water
03. Dougong · 2226
A joint that became an ecosystem
